New North Yorkshire unitary authority announced

On 21st July 2021 the Secretary of State, Rt Hon Robert Jenrick MP, announced that he has decided to implement, subject to Parliamentary approval, the proposal for a single unitary council for the whole of the existing administrative county of North Yorkshire, leaving the City of York Council as a separate and unchanged unitary authority.

The new North Yorkshire unitary authority will take over the deliver services to every household in the county from April 2023, replacing the eight councils currently operating under the two-tier system.
